Registration fee: $150.00
Fee includes lunch and dinner on July 28, and breakfast and lunch on July 29. Please donate a basket or gift cards for the raffle! Bring those dollars for the 50/50.

Hotel Reservations:

We have a block of rooms available for Monday and Tuesday nights at $159 per night.

Note: Reservations after Friday, June 26th, will be provided based on space and rate availability. Rates do not include 8.0% New York State Sales Tax, 5% Occupancy Tax, and 5% Local Tax. If you are tax-exempt please let them know when you call.

1:00 p.m.     NY State Library & NYLA Updates
2:00 p.m.     NYALS Advocacy Plan Update
2:30 p.m.     Break
2:45 p.m.     De-Mystifying Advocacy & Action. Lisa Varga, Chief Advocacy Officer, ALA
Participants will:

  • Understand how federal advocacy works
  • Have strategies for effective engagement by library systems
  • Experience mock advocacy meetings
  • Know what to say—and what to avoid—in meetings with legislators
  • Discuss lessons learned from advocacy experiences

4:30 p.m.      Conclusion
5:30 p.m.      Dinner–Offsite at the Beacon

 

Day 2: Wednesday, July 29

8:00 a.m.     Breakfast
9:00 a.m.     From Assets to Action: Collaborating Across Systems for Impact.
Shasta Savage
Participants will:

  • Feel more connected to colleagues across systems and to NYALS
  • Identify existing assets and strengths, both in their systems and the
    network that support collaboration and a united presence
  • Name what is supportive and what is a stretch when it comes to
    communication and working well together
