New York Alliance of Library Systems
The New York Alliance of Library Systems (NYALS) is a coalition of seventy-two (72) library systems and their directors in New York State. These 72 library systems are comprised of three distinct types of library systems serving over 19 million people state-wide including 2.8 million pupils, teachers and administrators.
• 23 public library systems that support over 1,000 libraries and branches
• 41 school library systems that are based within the State's Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and the Big 5 City school districts and support over 4,653 school library media centers in public school districts and nonpublic schools statewide
• 9 multi-type reference and research library resources councils (3Rs) are regional systems that serve over 900 academic, hospital, cultural, and corporate libraries in addition to the school and public library systems and their members.
NYALS focuses on issues that impact all library systems and their members including but not limited to funding, advocacy, legislation and regulations, collaborative services, and group purchasing.
